In the Bubble - French, Italian, and Portuguese editions
The previous 574 stories on this blog were delivered to you absolutely free - so I hope you'll feel generous and help me drum up some business for these new editions of my book. In The Bubble has now been translated into French, Italian and Portuguese - and I'd appreciate your support in these three ways:
a) buy-and-send copies for all your French, Italian and Portuguese-speaking friends around the world;
b) tell everyone you know, who speaks those languages, that these editions are now available;
c) send me the name and postal address of journalists, bloggers and thought-leaders in those countries/languages to whom you think I should send a free review copy. (john at thackara dot com)
Here, first, is the French edition translated by Anne Despond-Barre and published by Marc Partouche for Cite du Design Editions.
Next is the Italian edition translated by Niels Betori and published by Pier Paolo Peruccio for Allemandi.
These new editions are substantially changed from the original MIT Press edition in English. They are abridged (= shorter). They also feature an updated introduction and three new chapters - on Food, Development, and Telepresence. The Portuguese edition, which is published in Brazil by Virgilia, has a new title, too: "Plano B".
If you missed the book's incarnation as an installation at the Permormative Cities exhibition at the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism and Architecture (below) you can still hear me reading extracts at their site.
The book is also being translated (slowly, but surely) into Japanese and Chinese. We just agreed a Dutch version, and are hopeful of a German one. Meanwhile, there's a chapter by me in BESSERE ZUKUNFT? AUF DER SUCHE NACH DEN RÄUMEN VON MORGEN, edited by Friedrich von Borries, Matthias Böttger, Florian Heilmeyer and published by Merve Verlag (see below):
If you know of a publisher/editor in another language who might not want to miss this exciting boat, do let me know: (john at thackara dot com)
The MIT Press edition in English is still available and going stronger than ever but please buy many more copies.
Whilst I'm at it ("it" being flagrant self-promotion) please note that only a few hundred copies (out of 14,000 published last year) remain of the Dott 07 Manual - otherwise known as "Wouldn't It Be Great If..."

The cover of the French edition is lovely. But where can we get ahold of those 3 new chapters in English?
Andrew: I'll post them here as soon as I've cleared things with MIT Press. John

Just for the record, the French version is actually published by Saint-Etienne University Press -Publications de l'université de Saint-Etienne (PUSE)- and Cité du design éditions.
