| Jonscher’s career has been devoted to technology in one way or another, yet when it comes to analysing its impact on our lives, he remains a relative sceptic. This book surveys philosophy, biology, neuro-chemistry, information theory and electromagnetics to illustrate his main point: that the human mind is entirely different from, not to mention superior to, a computer. Jonshcher is a humanist with absolute confidence in our ability to remain in control of our digital creations. He advises students not to drop history and literature in favour of computer science, since a knowledge of human nature will be more important for the future than any understanding of technology: "The difference between the ability of a machine to process data and a human to create ideas will be instinctively obvious to the younger generation," he reminds us. | ||
