"Reflecting waters" project for Delhi, anyone?
Georg-Christof Bertsch proposes to run a live project to create an elementary city water map based on research and discussion about the aesthetics of water.
"Where are the places where water can be drink without worry? Why is it drunk without worry in places where one should be very worried? Why is water treated so badly? What can we positively learn from Delhi?".
"I shall give an introduction to the learning from German, Israeli, Turkish steps from the project plus an introductory talk on water in general. We will then form a group which does short interviews with people in different places in the city and do simple chemical water analysis. We end up with a simple water map of the city.
for my project Reflecting Waters : Dehli (Watermap) I need some helping hands as I plan to do an empirical project with 49 reading points in a 49 square grids of the city. In assume that with 5-6 members this team ought to be able to get the entire body of results within two days while learning a
lot about the city and its people.
The goal is to design a actual map of Dehli`s water quality. Therefore I need graphic designers who would like to volunteer in developing that.
To illustrate the relation between social situation and the quality of water we are going to ask individuals in food shops/market stalls of every single square of this grid the following five questions:
------
1. Do you drink water from the water tap or a nearby fountain? (yes/no)
2. Do you have to walk a while for water from a tap or a fountain? (yes/no)
3. Do you buy bottled water? (yes/no)
4. Do buy water from a water lorry? (yes/no)
5. Do you always have to boil your water before drinking it? (yes/no)
The interviewer will also get a simple test strip to measure the nitrate concentration in the water his interviewee uses to drink.
The interviewer does some pictures of the objects related to water in the surrounding of the person he talks to.
The whole project will help us to understand Dehli and to learn about the availability and daily use of the most important aliment: Water.
Please get back to me with a line in order to build a team.
Thank you all, best,
Georg
Date and place: shops, markets, wells, sources, restaurants, temples, public water supply places.
Timeframe: we can do this partly parallel with other grouop vists and partly on our own. We need at least 4 members in the group. Best size would be 7.
