"Ride-on dinner", anyone?
Mick Douglas, co-creator of the sublime Tramtactic project, proposes for Delhi that we stage a 'ride on dinner'. A prototype event has already taken place in Melbourne. "I would like to get the eating people moving (ideally by pedalling) and changing environment" says Mick, " motivated by curiosity, excitement and group dynamics, engaged in their body energy in ways that has a little demand on their body, and that literally changes their relationship to environment and space (more than say, dancing on one spot usually does). 250 people (the number we expect at MediaWala festival) is of course a LOT, so I know we have to work around that".
STOP PRESS: Mick's retinue of cycling diners has been appointed 'Official Caterers to the MediaWala Festival' which takes place on the evening of 1st Mar.
Scenario:
People are gathered at GAV in one location for a media presentation, that comes to a finish.
(i) 6.30pm a line of ~100 flat-bed load trikes / rickshaws (hired
with their wallahs / riders) pull up at a gathering point in GAV.
Excitement, intrigue. Each trike has a flag of sort, a
cushion/blanket on the tray. WE ARE ALL SENT TO MEET THE FOOD The
wallahs step aside and EATERS in groups of 3 take a trike - one rides
and two on the back. A wallah rides for those not game. Hosts
facilitate this.
(ii) the trikes pedal off together and say exit GAV, ride approx 1 km
or so to an appropraite (outdoor?) location - say riding around in a
circle at that location (even a road roundabout could do) Groups on
trikes may swap who is pedalling.
(iii) 5-10 FOOD vendor carts are seen approaching the EATERS
procession. A food offering is made from the FOOD vendors to the
EATERS - or some such perfomative meeting. This could be a pause spot
for 15-30mins or so. EATERS TRIKES now carry parts of dinner.
(iv) the FOOD vendors now go to the front of the procession followed by
the EATERS on trikes. Those on the back of trikes are snacking on the
food offered so far.
(v) 7.30 arrive back at GAV before dusk, framing of space by the
trikes. Other media stuff???? starts up.
(vi) the FOOD vendors complete food prep and dispense food. the
trikes have departed with their wallahs.
True, this would involve hiring a lot of flat bed trikes/rickshaws.
Maybe Rs 200 ?? for the day, with wallah only required for 2 hrs.
IF budget limits this, maybe some people walk, and fewer trikes, but
the exersion of energy by people happens and they meet and help carry
the food back.
