Culiblog

In 2004 Debra Solomon began publishing her independent (visual) research on culiblog.org a weblog about food, food culture, food as culture and the culture that grows our food. Culiblog is a resource about food systems, sustainability, food-related art/design and film, dished up to an urban-international readership, with a hunkering to see their favourite subject, food, in the context of culture.
Debra Solomon is an artist based in Amsterdam whose eclectic background includes being the first sous chef at Amsterdam's yet experimental Supper Club (1993 - 1995). She has designed a culinary interface for humans and geese (Recipes for Geese and People, in close collaboration with Natalie Jeremijenko's OOZ project) and endorphine rich experiences as an art installation (Ladies Gourmet Cycling, 2003-4).
Since 2006 her work includes a series of temporary 'concept' restaurants including a sprout restaurant that exclusively serves micro-greens (titled 'Grow yer own dang food'), a Recycling Restaurant (in collaboration with architect Dennis Kaspori and artist Jeanne van Heeswijk) and a restaurant for fasting cultures (in collaboration with Amsterdam's design hotel, the Lloyd Hotel).
For the Netherlands Architecture Institute - Maastricht, Solomon has co-curated the exhibition the Edible City (March - August 2007). She is the food domain expert of Dott 07 and a member of the Dott Urban Farming project.
